VC: Lack of Diversity in GPs

  1. Race
    1. “One study by HBS found Black investors made up less than 1% of the industry in 2016 (0.32%).  Other sources estimate the percent of Black investors has only increased by 1% in the past two years.“
    2. “81 percent of VC firms don’t have a single black investor. Roughly 50 percent of black investors in the industry are at the associate level or the lowest level at a firm; only 2 percent of VC partners are black.”
  2. Gender
    1. 68% of VC firms do not have any female GPs
    2. 18% of GPs are female
  3. School
    1. “After going through ~1,500 investors, I found that 40% of venture investors have attended Stanford or Harvard.”
    2. I think that means there are more male GPs that went to Stanford than female GPs.
